It’s a bittersweet time of the year when the ski season starts winding down and the snow quickly melts away. But spring time sunshine in Northern California excites me for all the other amazing outdoor adventures that await. From the coastal redwood forests to the Sierra Nevadas, there’s almost too much to choose from. Here are some of my favorite things to do when Spring arrives in NorCal!
Hike & Bike on Mt. Tamalpais
Mt. Tamalpais is a coastal mountain just a few minutes drive across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. It hosts so many trails that it’s taken my whole life to feel familiar with only a fraction of the routes. The hiking is amazing, the road biking is extremely challenging, and I’ve recently started to mountain bike on Mt. Tam as well! Different parts of the mountain offer views of rolling green hills that meet the ocean, layered ridges covered in redwood trees, and little lakes scattered across the valleys.
Stand Up Paddle Board on the Bay!
When it starts warming up enough to throw on a bikini and hit the bay – I’m on it!! SUPing is such great exercise and I love that the bay can be so calm and glassy in the mornings. There are also lots of really curious seals that pop their heads up next to you while you paddle :)
Spring Skiing in Lake Tahoe
When it starts warming up around Lake Tahoe, there are lots of beautiful spots I love to go hike around and explore before or after skiing. One of my favorite spots is called Donner Pass. It’s a fun road to drive with lots of places to hike and climb, and an epic view of Donner Lake. The Spring skiing in Tahoe is also all-time. Tank top weather and slushy park skiing is so fun!!
Stay Outside Later and Enjoy the Sunsets!
I love that experience after daylight savings time when you look at your clock and realize “Wow! I’m still out on the trail and it’s 7pm!”
