Sierra Quitiquit is a truly inspiring and compassionate human being that I’ve had the fortune of meeting this year. Last August we crossed paths in Bariloche, Argentina where we were working and skiing on a gear field-testing trip. Part of our adventures there included a trip to a backcountry ski hut that required a new level of mountaineering for me. Ironically, it was the same route where she embarked on her first hut trip of that scale many years ago. It was so incredible to make a friend who, with one glance, already understood my feelings of extreme joy, humility, and amazement in those mountains.
A few days ago I returned from Hakuba, Japan (the Japanese Alps) where I had the incredible opportunity to witness Sierra and her team filming for her upcoming movie, How Did I Get Here. The film chronicles Sierra’s rise to the world stage as a model and professional skier, and sheds light on the triumphs and challenges of her deeply inspirational life. It’s a story of unparalleled adventure and exploration, heartbreak, human growth and inspiration. It was a true gift to be able to watch amount of hard work, passion, and happiness that I saw poured into this project by Sierra and her director, Chris Kitchen. They’re not just making a film- they’re making magic. Contagious, happy, and exciting magic.
Sierra’s ever-glowing love for life is instantly noticeable on camera, but while you wait for the film to be released in Fall, this quote is a great token of her sentiments: “No matter where you come from or what’s happened along the path, it’s a privilege to choose happiness,” says Quitiquit. “I am so grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve been given to grow as a human being. I hope sharing my story will inspire people to pursue their happiness and their greatest dreams.”
Without a doubt, Sierra has inspired me to pursue my greatest dreams. And I know she will do the same for you :)
