Sun Dog of the Andes

The Shadow Campaign // Sun Dog from DPS SKIS on Vimeo.

My jaw dropped in excitement when I saw this edit!!! Not just from every amazing part of the skiing and scenery, but because I realized I was probably there at the same time it was being filmed. I met the Sun Dog! First, a little background:

Nestled among the dramatic Argentine Andes, a tiny stone ski hut called Refugio Frey sits a few valleys away from San Carlos de Bariloche. I had the fortune of visiting this little hut in August, and you can read my post about it here. It is only accessible on skis or foot, and serves as shelter from the unforgiving Patagonian winds for skiers seeking backcountry terrain. Skier Santiago Guzman and a dog named Conga visited this magical space for a few days of skiing last year. Together they created a film that not only highlights excellent skiing in some of the most beautiful mountains in the world, but the wonderful relationship between man and his dog.

BUT HOLD ON! If you read my post featuring the Frey from August, you’ll see a photo of me playing tug-of-war with an adorable black dog upon arriving at the hut. It is, indeed, Conga the Sun Dog with the same red harness. You can imagine my excitement. I played with the dog a lot while I was there but I never saw it bounding around the snow! Here are some photos from my trip that feature moments from this edit!
