Christmas in Oregon

My favorite holiday song has always been “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas.” I love picturing soft, white snow blanketing the ground and a toasty mug of hot cocoa in my hands. But this year I experienced a very different sort of scene! I had a very, very green Christmas. I went to Portland, Oregon!

Between family holiday activities we managed to take a day trip into the Columbia River Gorge, or as most Oregonians call it, “The Gorge.” We drove on the Historic Columbia River Highway, which seemed like an enchanted road through a never-ending leprechaun forest with a myriad of waterfall hikes and scenic viewpoints. It almost felt like we transported to Scotland for the day and returned to Portland that same night. But, indeed, it was Oregon’s beautiful Gorge…only an hour drive from Portland.

After exploring many waterfalls (my favorite of which was Latourell Falls), we drove to Hood River and found some great gifts in the quaint shops on Oak Street. The lunch at Pfriem Brewery down on the waterfront is amazing. If we had more free time we definitely would have gone skiing on neighboring Mt. Hood, but those gifts we bought were due under the tree ASAP! GGchristinegorgeggwaterfallGGgorgegreensGGchristinewaterfallGGgorgeviewGGleaffeet
